Western Suite
Bruce will be premiering his “Western Suite” for his septet at Comix NY on Wed Nov 4, 2009. The suite is based on his childhood memories of the old west, and portrays ranches, open skies, rain dances, and ghost towns. The band features several of Bruce’s closes collaborators: Terell Stafford, trumpet; Steve Wilson and Adam Kolker, saxophones and winds; Luis Bonilla, trombone; Vicente Archer, bass; and Rudy Royston, drums. Tickets are available at www.comixny.com

New Live Recording for Spring 2010 release
Bruce recently recorded a live CD with long-time collaborator Steve Wilson, great alto and soprano saxophonist. The recording was made at a house concert in Columbia, MO in partnership with the “We Always Swing” Jazz Series, and the CD will be released in the Spring, to be accompanied by a duet tour.

The Smoke Sessions
Bruce has had a close relationship with NYC’s Smoke Jazz Club for many years, and his trio is featured on its new box set, “The Smoke Sessions.” This recording celebrates the 10-year anniversary of this superb club, and two tracks feature Bruce’s trio with bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Montez Coleman: Bruce’s “Sunday” and Duke Ellington’s “Something ‘Bout Believing.” We’re hoping for 10 more years and many more beyond that!
